2. Інформація про безпеку

Always prioritize safety when working with epoxy primers. Read and understand all safety data sheets (SDS) before use. The following general precautions should be observed:

  • Вентиляція: Ensure adequate ventilation during application and curing. Use respirators approved for organic vapors if ventilation is insufficient.
  • Засоби індивідуального захисту (ЗІЗ): Wear appropriate PPE, including safety glasses or goggles, chemical-resistant gloves (e.g., nitrile or butyl rubber), and protective clothing to prevent skin contact.
  • Контакт зі шкірою: Avoid direct skin contact. If contact occurs, wash immediately with soap and water. Do not use solvents to clean skin.
Keep away from open flames, sparks, and other ignition sources. Store in a cool, well-ventilated area.
  • Утилізація: Dispose of all waste materials and empty containers in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.

3. Підготовка поверхні

Proper surface preparation is critical for the successful adhesion and performance of the Base Coat epoxy primer. Failure to adequately prepare the surface can lead to premature coating failure, such as peeling or delamination.

3.1. Загальні вимоги

  • The surface must be clean, dry, and structurally sound.
  • Remove all dirt, dust, grease, oil, loose paint, curing compounds, sealers, and other contaminants.
  • The ambient and surface temperature should be between 50°F (10°C) and 90°F (32°C) during application and for at least 24 hours after. Relative humidity should be below 85%.

3.2. Concrete Surfaces

  1. Прибирання: Thoroughly clean the concrete surface. For oily or greasy areas, use a suitable degreaser and rinse thoroughly with clean water. Allow the surface to dry completely.
  2. Profiling: Concrete surfaces must be profiled to achieve a texture similar to 100-grit sandpaper (CSP 1-2). This can be achieved through mechanical methods such as grinding or shot blasting. Acid etching may be used as an alternative if mechanical methods are not feasible, but ensure all acid residue is neutralized and rinsed away.
  3. Ремонт: Repair any cracks, spalls, or damaged areas in the concrete using an appropriate concrete repair material. Allow repairs to cure fully before priming.
  4. Перевірка вологи: Ensure the concrete is dry. Conduct a moisture test if there is any doubt. Moisture vapor transmission rates should be within acceptable limits for epoxy coatings.

4. Mixing Instructions

The Base Coat 2k Epoxy Primer is a two-component system consisting of Part A (Primer) and Part B (Hardener). It is crucial to mix these components thoroughly and accurately to ensure proper curing and performance.

  1. Pre-mix Part A: Before combining, stir Part A (Primer) thoroughly with a mechanical mixer for 2-3 minutes to ensure all settled pigments are fully dispersed.
  2. Combine Components: Pour the entire contents of Part B (Hardener) into the container of Part A (Primer).
  3. Ретельно перемішайте: Mix the combined components with a mechanical mixer at a low speed (e.g., 300-450 RPM) for 3-5 minutes. Scrape the sides and bottom of the container during mixing to ensure a homogeneous blend. Improper mixing can lead to soft spots or uncured areas.
  4. Pot Life: Once mixed, the product has a limited pot life. Refer to the product label for specific pot life duration, which typically ranges from 30-60 minutes depending on temperature. Only mix what can be applied within this timeframe.

5. Застосування

Apply the mixed Base Coat epoxy primer evenly to the prepared surface.

  1. Інструменти застосування: Use a high-quality 3/8-inch nap roller, a squeegee, or a brush for application. For larger areas, a squeegee followed by back-rolling with a roller is often efficient.
  2. Покриття: The estimated coverage rate is approximately 300 square feet per gallon, depending on surface porosity and texture. Porous surfaces may require more material.
  3. Even Coat: Apply a thin, even coat. Avoid puddling or excessively thick areas, as this can lead to curing issues or an uneven finish.
  4. Краї та кути: Use a brush to cut in edges and corners before rolling the main areas.
  5. Single Coat: Typically, one coat of Base Coat primer is sufficient.

6. Curing and Drying

The Base Coat epoxy primer requires specific curing times before subsequent coats or traffic can be applied.

  • Recoat Window: Refer to the product label for the recommended recoat window for your chosen topcoat. This is typically within 12-24 hours, but can vary based on temperature and humidity.
  • Невеликий пішохідний рух: The primer is typically ready for light foot traffic after 24 hours.
  • Heavy Traffic / Full Cure: Allow a full 7 days for the primer to achieve its maximum hardness and chemical resistance before subjecting it to heavy traffic or chemical exposure.
  • Температура і вологість: Curing times are affected by environmental conditions. Cooler temperatures and higher humidity will extend curing times, while warmer temperatures will shorten them.

7. Технічне обслуговування

Once cured, the Base Coat epoxy primer provides a durable and easy-to-maintain surface. While it is a primer, proper care will contribute to the longevity of the entire flooring system.

  • Регулярне прибирання: Sweep or vacuum regularly to remove loose dirt and debris.
  • Точкове прибирання: For spills, clean immediately with a mild detergent and water. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh solvents, as these can damage the coating.
  • Chemical Spills: Although the primer offers chemical resistance, promptly clean up any chemical spills to prevent potential damage to the topcoat.

8. Вирішення проблем

This section addresses common issues that may arise during or after the application of the Base Coat epoxy primer.

проблемаМожлива причинаРішення
Погана адгезія / відшаровуванняInadequate surface preparation (e.g., dirty, oily, or smooth surface), excessive moisture in concrete.Ensure thorough cleaning and proper mechanical profiling of the surface. Address moisture issues before application. Remove failed coating and re-prepare.
Bubbling / PinholesOutgassing from porous concrete, rapid curing due to high temperature, applying too thick.Ensure concrete is properly sealed and dry. Apply thinner coats. Work during cooler parts of the day or when temperatures are stable.
Нерівномірне покриття / СмугиImproper mixing, uneven application, incorrect roller nap.Ensure components are thoroughly mixed. Apply evenly with consistent pressure. Use a high-quality roller with the recommended nap.
Soft Spots / Not CuringInaccurate mixing ratio, insufficient mixing, low temperatures.Ensure precise measurement and thorough mixing of Part A and Part B. Maintain recommended application and curing temperatures. Remove uncured material and reapply.
